Hi!  It's Stroke TV Foundation Founder Aaron Avila. After meeting Don Ogan, a successful businessman who suffered a debilitating stroke some years ago, I asked him if he would serve on my Foundations Board Of Directors. He responded with a question. Where is the foundation going? What is the Foundations why? A simple yet profound question. So I began to contemplate why I and my Foundation does what it does. I write this document from my core as a man. My why? My why began when I became able to cognitively think again after suffering a massive subarachnoid brain aneurysm and two weeks later a massive stroke September 17th 2010 at age 47.  (Read my story here) My life had become catastrophically altered as fast as lightning strikes. Hi!  It's Aaron Avila from Stroke TV Foundation. I'm now nine years post Brain Aneurysm and stroke. My stroke support community Second Chance Stroke Survivors has almost reached 3,000 members from around the world. It still deeply rips my heart out to see yet another person who's life has been catastrophically altered by the cold hard hand of stroke. What brought all these emotions up is, I was messaging a newer stroke survivor named Gene Smith. His wife Naomi Smith is very active in my stroke community. Gene, like me, has bad Dysarthia.  (Means Slurred Speech) I remember in the early months of my stroke my family and friends could not understand me. Extremely dark and frustrating time for me. I can never forget it! It was like an all consuming dark energy. CUT! BRAIN FATIGUE! The cornerstone of who I am as a man and stroke survivor today is Roland Takaoka. He believed in me and Stroke TV when no else did! I was banned from many stroke survivor groups on Facebook. Called toxic to stroke survivors. Someone even started a rumor among all the stroke support groups I was not really a stroke survivor but really a troll! What's sad everyone believed them! Ripped my heart out! Ask Randy Terry, John Martinez or Cam Compton Tow they were there back in the early days. Remember my faithful brothers and sister? But despite all the hardships I stayed true to my vision, my passion and my new found purpose in life. To help stroke survivors worldwide. Find your passion within stroke survivor. Everyone has one! Meet our new community member Ata Tiataa from the Philippines. Her Story, It was just a normal day — eating breakfast with my friends and hanging out after work. Suddenly I didn’t feel so good. I had a headache and felt dizzy. I then went to the bathroom and vomited twice, and was incontinent. I knew it was different and dangerous. The last sign was that I couldn’t see from my right eye. I then told my friend to call Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF). I had a stroke. The stroke was due to Congenital AV Malformation. On the day of my stroke, I was 30 years old, 210 lbs, a height of 5’1”, and my blood pressure hit 250 mmHg. I’ve been taking Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar medications before then but I wasn’t consistent. I’ve always been fat as a kid and I would eat anything and everything especially chips, candies and chocolate. I didn’t exercise and I didn’t see the need to do that.
