Stroke Survivors. Our Brother Randy Terry Wrote This!

By Randy Terry

After suffering a stroke, I faced the challenge of relearning how to walk. Frustrated yet determined, I sought an unconventional solution. My John Deere lawn tractor became the unlikely ally.
I would sit in the seat, gripping the steering wheel, feeling its power and stability. With the tractor's gentle vibrations and the engine's rhythmic sound, I found a sense of balance. The task of guiding the tractor over the backyard became a new way to strengthen my legs and build my confidence.
Each time I maneuvered the tractor, I grew more aware of my body and its capabilities. Slowly but surely, I began to incorporate walking into my routine, using the tractor as a motivator. One day, as I stepped off the tractor, I took my first few steps unassisted, holding onto a chain-link fence in my backyard.
With tears of joy streaming down my face, I realized that the journey was not just about regaining my mobility but also about resilience, hope, and the unexpected ways we can find support in our lives. I learned that even in the most challenging times, strength and determination can lead to remarkable recovery.
