My Brain Aneurysm and Stroke Survival Story

I’m Aaron Avila, a brain aneurysm and stroke survivor from Santa Rosa, California, a charming town 45 minutes north of San Francisco. As the founder of Stroke TV Media, I’m dedicated to uplifting stroke survivors and their families worldwide.

In 2010, at age 47, my life changed in an instant when a brain aneurysm ruptured, followed by a stroke. Before this, I was thriving as an entrepreneur, running water storage tank and rainwater harvesting businesses for over a decade. I was a hands-on, do-it-all guy—cutting down trees, designing complex drinking water systems, and exploring the ocean as a certified Open Water Diver. Life was full of energy and endless possibilities.

The stroke hit like a bolt of lightning, stripping away my ability to walk, forcing me into a wheelchair, and leaving me with speech difficulties and balance challenges. It was a daunting new reality, one I’d never faced before. In the midst of this upheaval, my incredible wife, Rebecca, stood by me with unwavering love and support. Her strength became my anchor, giving me the courage to keep moving forward.

The stroke was a profound wake-up call—a second chance to see life differently. It made me reflect on everything I’d taken for granted: my physical abilities, the simple pleasures of daily life, and the deep bonds with family and friends. The early days of recovery were grueling, marked by frustration and moments of doubt, but I refused to let these challenges define who I am.

This experience sparked a new mission. Inspired by the courage of other stroke survivors, I founded Stroke TV Media, a global platform that’s been a beacon of hope for nearly a decade. It’s a vibrant community where survivors and their families can share stories, find resources, and draw strength from one another. I’m also working on a book, STROKE: The Journey Within, to share my journey in greater depth and inspire others to persevere.

Through Stroke TV Media, I’ve learned that we’re not victims—we’re survivors, capable of overcoming immense obstacles. My goal is to connect with others, celebrate our victories, and remind everyone that recovery is a journey of resilience and hope. Join me and countless others as we navigate the challenges of stroke recovery, embrace life with renewed passion, and never give up.

With gratitude and positive energy,

Sincerely,
Aaron Avila
